Our History
McFarland Soccer Association (MSA), now known as the McFarland Soccer Club, was established in 1982 by local resident David Harris and several other community members who were passionate about giving youth the opportunity to play the great game of soccer. The club started with approximately 50 players and for years, operated as a purely recreational program
In 2006, a new chapter began when longtime coach Mike Chandler joined the club, soon stepping into the role of Youth Development Coordinator. At the time teams were co-ed until U11, parents, along with some board members advocated for separating boys’ and girls’ teams starting at U9. Though many doubted the numbers would support this move, 31 girls registered for U9 in 2011, proving the decision was right and paving the way for stronger development for all players. In Fall of 2011, MSA hosted their first tournament drawing 30 teams from the surrounding areas.
In 2012, MSA fielded its first Competitive team —a U13 Boys team. Tryouts followed soon after, beginning at U11 and expanding year by year. By 2015, the club hosted its first High School Girls tryout team, and today, our high school soccer program remains strong. Alongside the competitive programs, MSA continued to offer recreation soccer programs for players of all skill levels.
In 2016, Mike Chandler was named Administrator of the Year by the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association —illustrating the success of MSA. In 2017 the association officially changed its name to McFarland Soccer Club (MSC) to better represent its growth into a comprehensive soccer program,
offering both recreational and competitive opportunities. From 2017-2022, MSC partnered with Celtic Football Club of the Scottish Premier League, providing players with additional high-level training opportunities.
In 2018, in collaboration with the Village of McFarland, a dedicated soccer building was constructed at William McFarland Park. The building is a tangible illustration of the club’s growth and provided space for concessions, gathering spaces, storage for equipment, restrooms and meeting space.
Since 2017, Mcfarland teams have made multiple appearances at the state tournament. The boys’ teams have gone three times, securing one title. The girls followed with three appearances starting in 2021, also bringing home a championship.
MSC’s growth has continued, we now have approximately 650 players and 50 teams. We offer introductory soccer opportunities for our youngest players with our Mini-Kickers Camps, recreational soccer for players U6-U8, academy training and programs for U9-U10 and competitive programs for U11-High School. Our Fall Fest Tournament and Summer Camps continue to be popular and successful, drawing strong participation from both McFarland players and teams from the surrounding communities.
MSC has now outgrown the space at William McFarland Park, and by the start of the Fall 2026 season, we will transition from William McFarland Park to newly expanded facilities at the Highway AB soccer fields, which will support our future growth. From our beginnings as a small recreational soccer program to becoming a respected competitive club, McFarland Soccer Club has become what it is today thanks to the dedication of parents, board members, community partners, coaches and players. See you on the pitch!
